This is my personal web site. It allows me to publish information about my personal genealogy as well as some general information about Italian, Greek and Irish genealogical research.
There is also information about U.S. Army Military Police and my Army service at Ft. Benning, Georgia and in the Republic of Vietnam. I also have descriptions and photos from my various travels around the U.S.A. and overseas. Because this is a Web 2.0 application, I have added blogging about my experiences learning the hardware and software I decided to use. Finally, there are several photo galleries holding photos of the 2005 reunion of the Newark High School (Newark, Delaware) Class of 1960, my travels to the Pacific Northwest, Korea, and Prague. Originally, I published my web site using Microsoft Front Page, a Web 1.0 application. Two events have encouraged me to redesign and republish my web using a Web 2.0 application like Joomla! 1.5.
First, I've attended two Podcamps, Podcamp Edu at American University in Washington, D.C. and Podcamp DC in Rosslyn, Virginia where I learned about Web 2.0 and New Media. Second, I learned that the web service provider for my Front Page designed web site had discontinued Front Page Extensions. I did some research on what to do next and realized I sorely needed to learn Web 2.0 content management systems and redesign my web site. Joomla 1.5 seemed to be the best choice and I set about studying it and obtaining Joomla 1.5.3, XAMPP and MAMP. Following that I installed a development environment on my personal computer, a Mac Pro, using MAMP. Elsewhere on this web site I'll record my experiences adding a Mac to my Windows and Linux network, learning Joomla and MAMP and other adventures in the world of Web 2.0 design. |
